The extra retention of fluids due to high intake of sodium causes swelling in the face, legs, hands, ankle and feet is termed as oedema.

If there is sudden swelling of hands and legs it is termed as preeclampsia and needs immediate medical support. Usually, these swelling occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy. To overcome this stay alert and follow....


* Reduce the intake of salty food like pickle, dry fish, etc

* Avoid wearing tight clothes and high heels.

* Increase fluid consumption for frequent urination.

* Wear soft and comfortable shoes while walking.

* Cut down long-standing periods and strenuous workouts.

* Use hot or cold bags to reduce swelling.

* Socks or stockings can be used in the swollen area.

* Keep your leg a bit elevated while taking rest.

* Massage the swollen area well.
